I must tell Jesus all of my trials;
I cannot bear these burdens alone;
In my distress He kindly will help me;
He ever loves and cares for His own.
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
I cannot bear my burdens alone;
I must tell Jesus! I must tell Jesus!
Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.
— Music and Words by Elisha A. Hoffman, 1894
I grew up singing this old gospel song by E.A. Hoffman. It was a go-to for prayerful Sunday evening services especially. And Maureen posted her performance of this arrangement yesterday for her weekly devotional at Crestwood. And now, it’s become a “go-to” for me all over again in these past 24 hours.
Much to be concerned about in these times. Jesus is a good listener.
She also included this prayer which I also thought was particularly helpful:
Lord Jesus Christ, who did descend
To become a sinner’s friend,
Heal our wounds and soothe our sorrow
Help us face a new tomorrow.
Reach into our darkest deep,
Lift us up and safely keep.
Save us from our body’s pain,
Give us that full life again.
Lord Jesus Christ, who did descend,
Protect and aid us to the end.
